Victoria Community Mourns the Passing of Shirley Urban Buergner

Shirley Urban Buergner, an esteemed member of the Victoria community, passed away on January 5, 2026, at the age of 86. Her life was marked by devotion to her faith, family, and gardening, which she cherished deeply. Born in Goliad to the late Alton and Willa Mae Boltz Urban, Shirley was a vibrant presence in her local church and family life.

A Life of Faith and Family

Shirley was a dedicated member of First English Lutheran Church, actively participating in several women’s groups that provided support and fellowship within the community. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her daily practice of reading Bible devotions, which she found both comforting and inspiring.

Beyond her spiritual pursuits, Shirley was passionate about nurturing her family. She took great pride in her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her family was the centerpiece of her life, and she enjoyed creating lasting memories through vacations and day trips with her husband, Roger N. Buergner Sr.. Together, they explored local towns and attended market days, enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Legacy and Community Celebration

Shirley is survived by her son, Michael R. Thomas, and her sisters, Annette Kloesel (Kenneth), Ina Faupel (Robin), and Janet Speer. She leaves behind a legacy of love, represented by her grandchildren, Maegen Crisp (Cameron), Courtney Clark (Constantine), Haley Davis (Brandon), and Jennifer Jasso (Craig), along with ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her daughters, Lisa Hardin and Jacque Thomas.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 16, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Chip Reynolds officiating. Following the service, inurnment of her ashes will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery. A reception will follow at Felger Hall at First English Lutheran Church, providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather in remembrance.
