Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall Stays Resolute Against Trump’s Rival

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has reaffirmed his commitment to his campaign for the U.S. Senate, insisting that the recent endorsement of his rival, Congressman Barry Moore, by former President Donald Trump will not alter his strategy. Marshall, who has served as Attorney General since 2015, emphasized his relentless approach to securing the Republican nomination to succeed Tommy Tuberville, who is running for governor instead of seeking a second term.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Marshall declared, “Alabama – you know me by now. I don’t back down, and I most certainly don’t back up.” He characterized his campaign as a pursuit of “bold, conservative change,” positioning himself as a steadfast ally of Trump and his policies throughout his tenure. Marshall’s comments come after Trump publicly gave his “Complete and Total Endorsement” to Moore in a social media post on Saturday evening.

Marshall, Moore, and three other candidates are vying for the Republican nomination ahead of the primary scheduled for May 19, 2024. Trump’s endorsement carries significant weight in Alabama, a state where Republican loyalty to the former president is often a determining factor in elections. Moore has long been aligned with Trump, having spoken at the former president’s inaugural campaign rally in Mobile in August 2015.

Throughout his time as Attorney General, Marshall has consistently supported Trump, often collaborating with fellow Republican Attorneys General to champion policies favorable to the former administration while opposing those from President Biden’s administration. He stated, “As your Attorney General, I’ve supported President Trump and his agenda and always put the people of Alabama First.”

Marshall referenced his past efforts, including his participation in what he described as an “outrageous witch-hunt court case” against Trump in New York, reiterating the former president’s unverified claims regarding the legitimacy of the 2020 election. “After the stolen 2020 election, I took on the Biden Administration every chance I got, and won,” he remarked.

He drew attention to his record as Attorney General, stating that he has resisted pressures to compromise on conservative values, particularly regarding issues such as “the left’s radical transgender agenda and woke DEI initiatives.” Marshall firmly stated, “There is no middle ground when it comes to protecting our children.”

In addition to social issues, Marshall highlighted his actions to combat the opioid crisis, claiming that his office secured over $750 million for Alabama communities aimed at addiction treatment, prevention, and recovery. He noted endorsements from various organizations, including the Alabama Farmers Federation, emphasizing his ongoing commitment to conservative principles.

Marshall concluded, “You honored me with the responsibility of serving as your Attorney General. I’m still that same man today. And you can count on me to take those same conservative values to D.C. and keep working alongside President Trump, this time as your United States Senator.”

As the race progresses, both Marshall and Moore have emerged as frontrunners in fundraising efforts, outpacing the other candidates in the Republican primary. The competition includes Jared Hudson, a former U.S. Navy SEAL; Morgan Murphy, a captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve; and Rodney Walker, a cattle farmer and business owner.

On the Democratic side, candidates include Kyle Sweetser, a business owner; Dakarai Larriett, a Birmingham native; and Mark Wheeler, a chemist from Heflin. As the election date approaches, the strategies and support for each candidate will continue to evolve in this pivotal Senate race.
