A peaceful protest is taking place today in Clarkston, aimed at raising awareness for the 50501 movement and voicing opposition to U.S. involvement in Venezuela. The demonstration is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the intersection of Bridge and Fifth streets. Organizer Jan Durham, a resident of Clarkston, emphasized the protest’s significance as part of a broader nationwide initiative.

The protest aligns with efforts to highlight the events of January 6, 2021, when a violent insurrection occurred at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. According to Durham, the gathering is intended to encourage citizens to advocate for the upholding of the Constitution and the rule of law. “The reason we are out there is because we want the administration to uphold the Constitution and rule of law,” she stated.

Background on the 50501 Movement

The 50501 movement is characterized as a grassroots effort that opposes the policies of former President Donald Trump. It takes its name from the goal of organizing “50 protests, 50 states, 1 movement.” This initiative aims to create a unified response against what supporters view as detrimental policies and actions taken during Trump’s administration.

Durham noted that the protest is not only focused on the past events surrounding the Capitol insurrection but also serves as a platform to express concerns over U.S. foreign policy, particularly regarding Venezuela. Participants are encouraged to join the peaceful demonstration to express their solidarity with the movement and their opposition to current government actions.

The organizers have extended an invitation to anyone who wishes to participate, promoting a message of inclusiveness and civic engagement. By gathering in Clarkston, supporters hope to amplify their voices and contribute to a larger national dialogue about governance, accountability, and the importance of democratic principles.
