Dearborn Receives $101K Grant to Enhance Community Gun Safety

The City of Dearborn has secured a grant of $101,570 from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to enhance community-focused gun safety initiatives. This funding is designed to promote responsible firearm ownership and address both unintentional and intentional firearm-related injuries within the community.

According to a recent announcement from the City of Dearborn, Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating, “Firearm injury prevention is a public health and safety priority, reinforced by our Health in All Policies approach.” The initiative aims to create a safer environment by combining public health strategies with community engagement.

Community Outreach and Education

The grant will support various activities, including community outreach programs and the distribution of firearm safety kits. These kits will contain essential items such as gun locks and lockboxes, along with educational materials aimed at raising awareness about safe firearm practices.
