McMahon and Robinson Compete for Norristown Council Seats
In the upcoming general election on November 4, 2025, two candidates are competing for at-large seats on the Norristown Municipal Council. Incumbent Councilwoman Mydera Robinson faces challenger David McMahon in a race with no other opponents. This election follows a primary that initially featured seven candidates vying for the available four-year term positions as the tenure of Council President Rebecca Smith comes to an end.
Robinson, who was appointed in January to complete the term of former Councilwoman Tiffani Hendley, is aiming to secure her position. Meanwhile, McMahon, a community activist and co-founder of Norristown Opposes Privatization Efforts, is campaigning to bring his experience in the film industry and community organization to the council.
Candidates’ Backgrounds and Qualifications
Robinson has dedicated her career to public service in Norristown. As the executive director of Theatre Horizon, a prominent local arts organization, she has been instrumental in attracting new investment and opportunities to the community. Her leadership approach emphasizes collaboration and community engagement, focusing on practical solutions that uplift resident voices.
McMahon brings extensive experience as a craftsman in the film industry, where he has managed complex projects under tight deadlines. His advocacy work, particularly regarding universal healthcare and climate change, showcases his commitment to community activism. McMahon emphasizes the importance of preserving Norristown’s character while fostering economic growth through sustainable practices.
Key Issues and Campaign Priorities
Both candidates have identified critical issues facing Norristown residents. McMahon highlights the need for improved living conditions, including safe and affordable housing, quality education, and enhanced public safety. He plans to focus on three main challenges: addressing high homeowner taxes, protecting vulnerable tenants, and tackling homelessness. His solutions include strengthening tenant rights and fostering community partnerships to create balanced development that benefits all residents.
Robinson echoes concerns about public safety and housing but also emphasizes opportunities for youth and seniors. She advocates for safer neighborhoods, job development programs, and accessible community spaces to enhance well-being and reduce isolation. Robinson believes Norristown’s strategic location can attract investment and foster regional growth, ultimately benefiting all age groups in the community.
Both candidates have made their campaign platforms accessible to voters. McMahon’s campaign can be found at McMahonForNorristown.com, while Robinson maintains an active presence on social media under the name Councilwoman Mydera Robinson on Facebook and @MobilizeMyderaPA on Instagram.
As Norristown prepares for the election, residents have the opportunity to make informed choices about their leadership. With the election date approaching, both candidates are eager to connect with voters and share their visions for the future of Norristown.
