Community Mourns the Loss of David Anthony Gilles, 66

David Anthony Gilles, aged 66, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 15, 2023. Born on April 27, 1959, in Glendale, California, to William and Carol Gilles, he left behind a legacy of dedication and love.

After graduating from Bishop Montgomery High School, Gilles pursued further education at community colleges in Torrance, California, and Pasco, Washington. He married Nancy Erd in 1980, and together they moved to Richland, Washington, where they raised four children: Darlene, Wendy, David, and Heather.

Gilles began his career at the Hanford Nuclear Site, initially working as a bus driver. His determination and work ethic allowed him to ascend through the ranks, ultimately serving as the Manager of Retrieval Operations at the Tank Farms before retiring. In 2023, he and Nancy relocated to Sandpoint, Idaho, where they enjoyed the home they built together.

Throughout his life, Gilles was a devoted provider and caregiver for his family. He was known for his patient teaching style and tireless work ethic. Friends and family often remarked on his reserved demeanor, which masked a quick wit and clever sense of humor. Those who experienced his playful teasing knew it was a sign of affection.

Gilles is survived by his wife, Nancy, their four children, eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his brother, William, along with sister-in-law Roni. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in David’s memory be made to the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation. Friends and family are encouraged to visit his online memorial to share memories and tributes.

Gilles’ passing leaves a significant void in the lives of those who knew him, but his legacy of love and hard work will endure through his family and community.
