WWII Veteran LeRoy Forehand Passes Away at 102 in Torrance

LeRoy Forehand, a respected World War II veteran and long-time resident of Torrance, California, passed away peacefully from natural causes on February 7, 2026. He was 102 years old. Forehand’s life reflected a commitment to service, both in his military career and in his community engagements.

Born in Grinnell, Iowa, Forehand moved to southern California in 1941. He began his career at Lockheed Aircraft, where he worked as an aircraft ordnance technician on the P-38 fighter planes. In August 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving valiantly in the Pacific theater during World War II. Notably, he held the position of Beach Master during the critical operation on Saipan in 1945.

Career and Community Involvement

After the war, Forehand returned to southern California, where he continued his professional journey. He worked at TRW and later at CALTRANS, until his retirement. His dedication to service extended beyond his work life; he became actively involved in the Gardena Masonic Lodge in 1960, eventually attaining the office of Master.

Forehand was also a prominent member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), serving on the Honor Guard at Post 1622 in Lomita for over 20 years. He was a passionate supporter of the USS Iowa and regularly participated in the Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade, reflecting his ongoing commitment to honoring military service.

Memorial Services and Legacy

LeRoy Forehand is survived by his daughter, Ruth Ann Forehand. A viewing will be held at Halverson, Stone and Myers Mortuary, located at 1223 Cravens Ave., Torrance, on Thursday, February 26, from 16:00 to 19:00. The memorial service will take place at the mortuary chapel on Saturday, February 28, at 10:00. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Green Hills Cemetery.

A celebration of life will occur after the internment at the Lomita VFW Post 1622, located at 1865 Lomita Blvd. Friends, family, and community members are invited to honor the memory of a man who dedicated his life to serving his country and his community.
