As the Philadelphia Eagles prepare for their Week 17 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, the team is in a relatively healthy position. In contrast, the Bills are facing significant roster challenges due to injuries and players on injured reserve (IR). Both teams have announced their inactives for the game, which could greatly influence the outcome.

Eagles’ Injury Status

The Eagles will be without several notable players, including right tackle Lane Johnson, who is missing his sixth consecutive game due to a Lisfranc injury. The Eagles are taking a cautious approach with Johnson, prioritizing his health for the playoffs.

Linebacker Nakobe Dean also remains sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 16 against the Commanders. Fortunately, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio indicated that Dean avoided a serious long-term injury, but he is not fit to participate in this crucial game.

Also inactive is cornerback Michael Carter, who will not play due to personal reasons. The Eagles will have to adjust their strategy without these key players in their lineup.

On the injury reserve list, several other Eagles players are notable. Andrew Mukuba, a safety who has had a mixed rookie season with 46 tackles and 2 interceptions, is eligible to return but is not expected to play yet. Additionally, wide receiver Johnny Wilson is out for the season after an injury, limiting the Eagles’ receiving options.

Further complicating the Eagles’ depth are injuries to players such as edge rushers Ogbo Okoronkwo and Azeez Ojulari, both of whom are on IR. Offensive lineman Willie Lampkin, who showed promise during the pre-season, is also not expected to return this year.

Bills’ Roster Challenges

The Buffalo Bills face a more extensive list of inactive players for this match. Key players absent from the game include wide receiver Keon Coleman, tight end Dalton Kincaid (knee), and safety Jordan Poyer (hamstring). The absence of kicker Matt Prater is particularly noteworthy, as he has been effective this season with 18 of 20 successful field goal attempts. In his place, Michael Badgley will take on kicking duties.

The Bills’ injury report also highlights the loss of defensive tackle Ed Oliver, who has been a critical contributor with 9.5 sacks last season. Oliver is eligible to return at any time but will not participate in this game. Other players on IR include defensive end Michael Hoecht, who suffered a torn Achilles, and defensive tackle Dewayne Carter, whose season ended with an Achilles injury in August.

The Bills are also dealing with injuries to safety Taylor Rapp and cornerback Dorian Strong, further depleting their defensive lineup. Strong, a sixth-round rookie, is facing a career-threatening neck injury that has sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

As both teams head into this important matchup, the impact of these injuries will be pivotal. The Eagles, while missing key players, retain a stronger lineup compared to the Bills, who are grappling with multiple significant absences. This game could be critical for both squads as they aim to secure a favorable position for the playoffs.
