Hansi Flick Confirms Pedri Out for Barcelona’s Clash with Villarreal
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has announced that midfielder Pedri will not feature in the team’s upcoming match against Villarreal due to a minor injury. This development comes just ahead of Barcelona’s last game of the calendar year, marking a significant setback for the club as they aim to maintain their lead in the league standings.
During a pre-match press conference, Flick expressed his disappointment regarding Pedri’s absence. “No, he’s not available. I am not happy about this, but it’s part of football. He’s injured, but I think for the next game he’ll be ready,” he stated. The manager confirmed that Pedri is experiencing hamstring issues, emphasizing that while the player could potentially participate, the risk of aggravating the injury is too high.
Flick further elaborated on the situation, stating, “We have to take care of him and make sure he gets treatment. We can’t take any risks. It’s the best thing to do right now.” He underscored the importance of having Pedri fit for upcoming matches, particularly against Espanyol and in the Super Cup, which are crucial fixtures for Barcelona.
The absence of Pedri poses a significant challenge for Barcelona as they seek to conclude the year with a victory. Currently, the team sits four points clear at the top of the table, with Real Madrid set to face Sevilla in their final fixture later today. The pressure is on Barcelona to secure a win in the context of their title race.
As the Catalan club prepares for the match, they will need to adapt their strategy without one of their key players. Flick reassured fans that the squad possesses ample talent to fill the gap left by Pedri, adding, “We have a lot of quality in the team.”
The upcoming clash against Villarreal is not just another game; it represents a pivotal moment in Barcelona’s season. As the team strives to finish the year strongly, the focus will be on overcoming this latest obstacle while keeping an eye on their immediate future.
