Methacton Dominates Pope John Paul II in Swimming and Basketball Showdown

On January 9, 2026, Methacton High School achieved impressive victories in both boys’ and girls’ swimming against Pope John Paul II (PJP) and showcased dominant performances in basketball. The swimming teams excelled in their respective competitions, with the girls winning by a score of 107-60 and the boys taking the match 104-61.

In girls’ swimming, Methacton recorded a strong performance, highlighted by individual victories. Avery Gulotta led the team with a time of 2:08.46 in the 200 freestyle, while Cadie Kallal triumphed in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:31.33. The 200 medley relay team, which included Chloe Fennimore and Sofia Munley, clocked in at 2:09.55 for PJP.

Pope John Paul II’s Caitlyn Kenning, a sophomore, claimed victory in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01.06 and contributed to the relay team’s performance. Despite this, the Methacton girls improved their season record to 4-2 overall and maintained an unblemished 4-0 in the Pioneer Athletic Conference (PAC).

In the boys’ swimming competition, Methacton showcased their strength with junior Jake Roberts clinching victories in both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. He also participated in the victorious 200 freestyle relay team. The final score of 104-61 solidified Methacton’s status as a leading contender in the PAC, bringing their overall record to 5-1 and also 4-0 in conference play.

Moving to basketball, the Spring-Ford Rams delivered a commanding performance against Norristown, winning 58-12. Freshman Teagan Finney led all scorers with 12 points, while her teammates Miley Maloney and Brynn Stiles contributed 11 points each. The Rams’ defensive prowess was evident, as they held Norristown scoreless in the first and third quarters. Spring-Ford’s overall record now stands at 9-2, with a conference record of 6-1.

In another matchup, Upper Moreland managed a narrow 56-50 victory over Pottsgrove. Layla Jelbaoui spearheaded the effort with 18 points, including 15 in the second half. Despite leading at multiple points, Pottsgrove could not maintain their advantage against Upper Moreland’s late surge.

The Renaissance Academy faced Upper Merion, ultimately losing 48-38, despite Levayda Fuqua scoring 12 points. The Lady Vikings will look to rebound as they continue their PAC crossover schedule against Phoenixville next week.

On the boys’ side, Upper Merion secured a 44-34 victory over Renaissance Academy, driven by Isaiah Robinson, who scored 22 points, with 10 coming in a decisive fourth quarter. This win improved Upper Merion’s record to 3-10, as they prepare to face Norristown in their next game.
