Minnesota Wild Edge Kraken 3-2 in Overtime Thriller
The Minnesota Wild secured a dramatic 3-2 victory against the Seattle Kraken in overtime on the night of October 26, 2023. Mats Zuccarello netted the winning goal just 2:09 into the extra period, capping off a thrilling contest at Climate Pledge Arena.
Strong performances from key players propelled the Wild to their fourth win in seven games during this road trip, finishing with a record of 4-1-2. Brock Faber contributed significantly with a goal and an assist, while Ryan Hartman also found the net. Kirill Kaprizov had a notable game, delivering two assists and playing a crucial role in the decisive moment of the match. Goaltender Jesper Wallstedt was solid in net, making 26 saves to help his team secure the win.
The Kraken, who had their four-game winning streak halted, managed to extend their point streak to ten games with a record of 8-0-2. Adam Larsson and Matty Beniers scored for Seattle, with Vince Dunn assisting on both goals. Goalie Philipp Grubauer faced 34 shots, stopping 31 of them during the game.
Zuccarello’s winning goal came on a swift 2-on-1 rush. He received a cross-slot pass from Kaprizov and executed a precise one-timer, placing the puck into the upper left corner of the net. Grubauer was unable to shift across the crease in time to make the save.
The Wild initially took control of the game, leading 2-0 by the end of the second period. Hartman opened the scoring at the 5-minute mark, using Kraken defenseman Jamie Oleksiak as a screen to beat Grubauer on the glove side. The Wild doubled their lead at 15:54 when Faber found the back of the net with a wrist shot, aided by a play from Matt Boldy and Quinn Hughes.
The Kraken responded strongly in the third period, scoring twice within the first ten minutes to erase the Wild’s lead. Larsson got Seattle on the scoreboard at 3:13, launching a slap shot after a rebound from a Dunn shot that hit the crossbar.
Seattle’s power play, which followed a penalty against the Wild, saw them put four shots on goal but fail to convert. However, they capitalized on a second chance when Beniers scored at 9:07, collecting a rebound and chipping the puck into the upper corner to tie the game 2-2.
As the game progressed, the intensity heightened, culminating in the overtime where Zuccarello’s goal sealed the win for Minnesota. The Wild’s resilience and strategic plays under pressure highlighted their competitive spirit, while the Kraken’s performance indicated their continued prowess in the league.
This thrilling encounter showcased the talent on both teams and promises an exciting season ahead for both franchises.
