North Schuylkill Dominates Mount Carmel with 61-6 Victory

The North Schuylkill Spartans achieved a commanding victory over the Mount Carmel Tornadoes on March 15, 2024, winning 61-6 in their final dual meet before the Schuylkill League Championships. This match, held at North Schuylkill, marked the Spartans’ 14th win of the season, showcasing their strength across various weight classes.

North Schuylkill dominated the competition, winning 11 out of 13 weight classes. The Spartans secured six victories by pinfall, in addition to one decision win, one major decision win, and three wins via forfeit. The Tornadoes were unable to field competitors in the 107, 114, and 145-pound weight classes, resulting in forfeits that significantly impacted their overall score.

At the 189-pound class, Mount Carmel managed to claim their first victory, with Chance Swatski defeating North Schuylkill’s Connor Dower with a score of 9-3. The Tornadoes also found success at 285 pounds, where Dominick Lentini narrowly defeated William Wysoski 11-9.

Pins Lead the Way for Spartans

The standout performance for North Schuylkill came from their grapplers who achieved pins in key matches. In the 121-pound category, Stanley Padakowski pinned Brayden Mirarck in 5:27. Alex Deritis followed suit in the 127-pound match, securing a pin against Thomas Berezovske in 3:37.

Further demonstrating their prowess, Noah Leib pinned Gavin Kotzo in just 1:09 at 133 pounds. Brock Holmes added another pin at 139 pounds, defeating Bradley Clark in 2:52. The speed of the Spartans was particularly evident at 172 pounds, where Benjamin Carr achieved a quick pin over Evan Jones in just 26 seconds. Cadyn McGraw rounded out the pin victories with a win against Keegan Brown in 3:57.

In addition to the pins, North Schuylkill also showcased their tactical skills. Kaden Tavares won by decision at 152 pounds, defeating Lukas Carppenter 3-0. Meanwhile, Bryce Kile secured a major decision win, finishing with a score of 23-14 against Alexander LaMas.

This victory sets the stage for North Schuylkill as they prepare for the upcoming Schuylkill League Championships, which will take place in Pottsville. The Spartans will look to build on this momentum as they aim for further success in the league.
