Oklahoma Pitcher Sophia Bordi Enters Transfer Portal for New Opportunities

Oklahoma pitcher Sophia Bordi has announced her decision to enter the transfer portal, marking a significant shift in her collegiate career. Bordi shared her intentions on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday afternoon, expressing a desire for change and new challenges.

“This wasn’t an easy decision to make, but sometimes things have to change in order to try and find that little kid in yourself who’s yearned for as long as you can remember to be living in the blessings that you’re currently in, to find that spark again,” Bordi stated in her post. She added that she is eager to see where her journey leads her.

Bordi joined the University of Oklahoma ahead of the 2025 season but did not play during her time with the team. She stepped away from the program in May to focus on her personal and mental health, returning to her hometown of Merchantville, NJ. During the fall, she did not participate in the Sooners’ intrasquad Battle Series scrimmages or any exhibition games.

Prior to her time at Oklahoma, Bordi was recognized as a high-level recruit, receiving the New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year honor twice and leading her high school team to two state championships. Initially, she was the top-rated pitcher in the 2025 recruiting class but reclassified to enroll at Oklahoma a year early. Bordi aimed to redshirt her first year and work closely with Jennifer Rocha, the associate head coach and pitching coach, but her plans changed when she decided to leave the program.

Bordi expressed her gratitude for her time at Oklahoma and the support she received, stating, “I want to say thank you to the people close to me in Oklahoma and the Sooner fans who have continued to support me and show me love throughout my journey thus far. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given and the time I’ve spent at OU.”

Following Bordi’s announcement, the Sooners’ pitching staff will now include Kierston Deal, Audrey Lowry, Berkley Zache, Sydney Berzon, Miali Guachino, and Allyssa Parker. The Oklahoma Sooners experienced a notable shift in performance during the 2025 season, as their four-year national championship streak came to an end when they lost to Texas Tech in the semifinals of the Women’s College World Series. Texas went on to defeat Texas Tech in the championship series, claiming the national title.

As Bordi prepares for the next chapter in her athletic career, her announcement marks a pivotal moment for both her and the Oklahoma softball program.
