Walker Kessler to Undergo Shoulder Surgery, Out for Season
The Utah Jazz announced that center Walker Kessler will undergo surgery for a left shoulder injury, effectively sidelining him for the remainder of the season. The operation is scheduled for March 15, 2024, in Los Angeles to address a labral tear sustained during the ongoing NBA season.
In a promising start to the season, Kessler showcased impressive performance metrics before the injury. In just five games, he averaged 14.4 points per game while shooting an impressive 70.3% from the field. Additionally, he contributed 10.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game, highlighting his significant impact on both ends of the court.
Strong Start Cut Short
Kessler’s early season form included a remarkable opening game where he scored 22 points on 7-for-7 shooting, along with nine rebounds and four blocks against the Los Angeles Clippers. His performance was not a one-off; he followed it up with 25 points and 11 rebounds in a victory against the Phoenix Suns just two games later. This season, he also demonstrated improvement in his three-point shooting, making 6 of 8 attempts after struggling in previous seasons.
Despite the setback, Kessler’s contributions during his brief stint this season have elevated the Jazz’s expectations. The team now faces the challenge of filling the gap left by his absence as they continue their campaign. As Kessler prepares for surgery, both the player and the organization will be focusing on a successful recovery.
The injury is a significant blow to the Jazz, who had hoped to build on Kessler’s strong performances this season. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as the team adapts to this unexpected change in their lineup.
