Yale Women’s Hockey Ramps Up with Five Consecutive Victories

The Yale Bulldogs women’s ice hockey team kicked off the year 2026 with an impressive streak of five consecutive victories, enhancing their season record to 14–7 and their ECAC conference standing to 9–5. The team, currently ranked No. 14 nationally, demonstrated resilience and skill, reclaiming their position in the top rankings after briefly falling out of the top 15 in late November.

On January 2, Yale hosted the Union Garnet Chargers at Ingalls Rink. Despite facing a challenging three-goal deficit, the Bulldogs surged back to secure a 6-3 win. Yale dominated the game with a total of 44 shots on goal, nearly triple the 15 shots attempted by Union, effectively showcasing their offensive prowess and setting a strong tone for the rest of the season.

The following day, Yale continued their winning streak against the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers, dominating with a decisive 7-2 victory. After scoring four unanswered goals, the Bulldogs maintained control throughout the match, reinforcing their offensive strategy and confidence.

Yale’s momentum carried into the next week, where they achieved a significant upset against the No. 6 Northeastern Huskies on January 5. The Bulldogs not only won but shut out their opponents with a final score of 3-0. Naomi Boucher ’26 opened the scoring with a power play goal just three minutes into the game, followed by another from Emma McGowan ’28. Goaltender Samson Frey ’29 delivered an outstanding performance, blocking all 22 shots from Northeastern, marking her second shutout of the season and boosting Yale’s national ranking.

As the Bulldogs traveled to face two Ivy League opponents, Dartmouth and Harvard, they continued their winning streak. On January 7, Yale bested Dartmouth with a commanding 3-0 victory, outshooting their opponents by a ratio of two to one. The following day, in a much-anticipated rivalry match, Yale faced Harvard. After initially trailing, Yale rallied back to win 3-2, scoring the decisive goal in the third period to secure their fifth consecutive win.

These five victories not only reinforced Yale’s position in the national rankings but also improved their standing within the ECAC. The Bulldogs currently sit second to No. 9 Princeton, surpassing other strong teams such as No. 7 Quinnipiac and No. 10 Cornell.

Looking ahead, Yale will return to Ingalls Rink on January 16 to host No. 13 Colgate. As the Bulldogs continue to build on their momentum, their recent performances suggest a strong season ahead, with aspirations of climbing even higher in both the national and conference standings.
