Dolphins Coordinator Frank Smith’s Sideline Shift Sparks Offense
UPDATE: The Miami Dolphins’ offensive coordinator, Frank Smith, made a pivotal shift from the booth to the sideline during Sunday’s decisive 34-10 victory against the Atlanta Falcons. This strategic move is already paying off, as Smith reported receiving a congratulatory message from injured tight end Darren Waller, noting, “I guess they saw the real you.”
With this change, Smith was better positioned to communicate with players in real time, enhancing the offense’s performance. He stated, “It’s fun, man. It was a lot of fun. I haven’t been on the field in a couple of years, and I’m glad I could help the football team win.” The Dolphins head coach, Mike McDaniel, supported this decision, emphasizing the need for clear communication on the field.
In addition to Smith’s sideline presence, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa also made adjustments, wearing a visor to protect his swollen eye. Another significant change included Daniel Brunskill taking snaps as a sixth offensive lineman, positioned at tight end. Smith described Brunskill’s role as “two-prong,” aimed at addressing both opponents and the Dolphins’ own offensive challenges. “It was awesome just to see his connectivity to the guys,” Smith noted.
As the Dolphins prepare for their upcoming game, injury updates are crucial. Linebacker Bradley Chubb, who reported shoulder and foot issues, assured fans: “I’ll be good. It is just one of those things…you just want to make sure you get on it and correct it.” His presence is expected for Thursday night’s matchup.
Meanwhile, Lamar Jackson, the Ravens quarterback, is trending toward returning after a month-long absence due to a hamstring injury. He shared his eagerness to rejoin his team, stating, “Can’t wait to touch the grass with my guys.”
In a significant roster move, the Dolphins placed cornerback Storm Duck on injured reserve, confirming his season is over due to a knee injury obtained in Atlanta. This leaves an open spot on the active roster, potentially for rookie Jason Marshall Jr., as he recovers from a hamstring injury. The team also placed Kendall Sheffield on the practice squad injured list while bringing back undrafted rookie Ethan Robinson.
In quarterback news, Quinn Ewers has lost his position as Tagovailoa’s backup to veteran Zach Wilson, who has reclaimed the No. 2 role after initially losing it. Coach McDaniel stated, “For now, the best thing for our football team is for Zach to come in and be the No. 2.” Both quarterbacks have shown improved performances in recent weeks, contributing to the team’s competitive edge.
As the Dolphins gear up for their next game, all eyes will be on how these strategic changes and injury updates will impact their performance on the field. With the team’s momentum and the latest adjustments, fans are eager to see how Miami will respond in the upcoming match. Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops.
