UPDATE: A homeowner shot and killed an alleged intruder early Monday morning in Somerset Township, Pennsylvania, sparking an urgent investigation by local authorities. Around 2 a.m., police were called to a residence on the 100 block of Locust Street following reports of a break-in attempt.

According to Somerset County District Attorney Tom Leiden, the homeowner was awakened by loud banging on his kitchen window. Upon investigation, he discovered a male intruder trying to break into his home, having already shattered a window. The homeowner reportedly warned the intruder that he was armed before shooting him in the head.

The intruder’s body was later located by responding state police near the back door of the property. While the homeowner has been detained for questioning, initial reports suggest he may have acted in self-defense. No charges have been filed, and authorities confirm there is currently no ongoing threat to the public.

Leiden stated, “There is no danger to the community,” while confirming that multiple individuals have been interviewed as part of the investigation. A nearby resident, JD Ross, expressed shock at the incident, saying, “Scary, that’s my reaction. This is a nice neighborhood. We raised our kids here. I still don’t know what happened, but tragic.”

As the investigation continues, police are awaiting the notification of next-of-kin before releasing the identity of the deceased intruder. The community remains on edge as officials work to gather more information about the incident.

Residents are encouraged to stay alert and report any suspicious activities. Stay tuned for further updates as this developing story unfolds.
