James Conant, a respected member of the Harpswell community, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, at the age of 65. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Tammy Conant, and his mother, Roberta Greenlaw, at the time of his passing. Known for his dedication to his family and his work, James’s contributions will be remembered fondly by many.

James Conant was a lifelong outboard mechanic, lobsterman, and clam digger. His skills and knowledge made him a go-to resource for many in the Harpswell area. Over the course of his career, he earned a reputation for his reliability and commitment to helping others, often being the first person friends and neighbors turned to when they needed assistance.

Born on December 14, 1960, James was the son of Arthur Conant and Roberta Greenlaw. He spent his early years in Harpswell, where he developed a love for the ocean and the unique lifestyle that comes with it. James and Tammy built a strong partnership, celebrating 48 years of marriage and raising a large, loving family together.

Family and Community Impact

James is survived by three children and eight grandchildren, as well as three siblings and many nieces and nephews. He was also the proud owner of a dog named Boomah, who was a constant companion throughout his life. His family has expressed their deep gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community during this difficult time.

“James was not just a husband and father; he was a friend to many,” said Tammy Conant. “His kindness and willingness to help will be missed by all.”

A celebration of James Conant’s life is scheduled for January 18, from 12:00 to 14:00, at his home in Harpswell. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering a man who touched so many lives with his warmth and generosity.
