Former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is reportedly close to finalizing a deal to become the new head coach of the New York Giants. Harbaugh traveled to New Jersey on March 15, 2024, where he held meetings with Giants officials in East Rutherford. His arrival has generated significant buzz among fans, many of whom tracked his private jet as it landed for discussions with the organization.

Harbaugh’s potential hiring comes on the heels of his dismissal from Baltimore last week, where he spent nearly two decades as head coach. His impressive record of 180-113 includes a Super Bowl victory during the 2012 season, establishing him as one of the league’s most successful coaches. With nine teams currently searching for a new head coach, Harbaugh’s experience and track record make him a sought-after candidate.

During his visit, Harbaugh met with various personnel, including rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. Reports from ESPN describe the discussions as “productive,” indicating a strong interest from the Giants in securing Harbaugh’s services. The Giants have struggled in recent seasons, finishing with a dismal 7-27 record over the past two years. The organization has cycled through six head coaches since 2016, with the most recent departure being Brian Daboll, who was let go in November 2023.

The need for stability within the Giants is pressing, as the team has only made the postseason twice in the last decade and has not reached the Super Bowl since their victory in 2011. As the franchise looks to rebuild, Harbaugh could bring the leadership and consistency it desperately needs.

While contract details are still being ironed out, no official paperwork has been signed yet, according to ESPN. The possibility of Harbaugh’s hiring has garnered attention beyond the sports community as well. Notably, President Donald Trump publicly endorsed the move over the weekend, stating on Truth Social, “The New York Football Giants should hire, without question, John Harbaugh. And John, a great guy, should TAKE THE JOB!”

As negotiations continue, the Giants hope to solidify their coaching position soon, with Harbaugh potentially set to lead the team into a new era of competitiveness in the NFL.
