Thomas Luebke, the commission’s executive director, noted that public feedback was predominantly negative, with many comments criticizing both the design and the process. One critique pointed out that the scale appeared oversized, causing concern about the structure’s dominance over the main building.

Baranes responded to these critiques by detailing plans to set the addition’s north boundary back from the existing North Portico, which would help maintain the White House’s traditional facade. He also noted that the new east side colonnade would rise to two stories, enhancing the continuity of the design while addressing symmetry concerns.
