Community Mourns the Passing of Barbara Rae Jackson at 78

Barbara Rae Jackson, a beloved member of the Ironton community, passed away at the age of 78 on March 3, 2026, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. Born on August 9, 1947, to the late Floyd Amos and Elizabeth “Peg” (Wolfe) Lewis, Jackson’s life was marked by dedication to her family and community.

A proud graduate of Ironton High School, class of 1965, Barbara began her career as a secretary at Ashland Oil, Inc. She later took on a significant role at Central Christian Church, where she served for two decades before retiring in 2026. Her commitment to her work and the church community was well regarded, and she left a lasting impact during her tenure.

Barbara was passionate about traveling, particularly to the beach, and found joy in reading and gardening. Most importantly, she cherished the time spent with her family. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Jackson of Huntington, West Virginia, and Jon “Nick” (Larissa) Jackson of Middletown, New York. Her legacy continues through her granddaughter, Lisa (Adam) Stephenson of Ironton, and her great-granddaughters, Kaylee Lore and Raelyn Stephenson.

Remembering Barbara Rae Jackson

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, William Roger Jackson, as well as her brothers, Glenn Lewis and Floyd “Randy” Lewis. The community has expressed deep sorrow at her passing, as she was a cherished friend and neighbor to many, including her close friend, Joseph Fletcher, Jr.

Graveside services are scheduled for March 9, 2026, at noon at Woodland Cemetery, with Minister Willie Purdee officiating. Friends and family are encouraged to attend to pay their respects.
