Nearly 100 Employees at Premier Care Nursing Home Laid Off
Ninety-four employees at the SKLD nursing home facility in Bloomfield Hills, part of Premier Care LLC, will be permanently laid off effective November 1, 2023. This announcement was made through a layoff notice submitted to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity on September 2.
The affected nursing home, located at 2975 N. Adams Road, provides both short-term rehabilitative care and long-term care services. The decision to lay off these employees marks a significant reduction in the workforce at the facility, which has been a critical provider of care for many residents.
The reasons behind the layoffs have not been disclosed in the notice, leaving questions about the future of the facility and its residents. Layoffs in the healthcare sector can often disrupt the continuity of care for patients who rely on consistent staffing for their health and well-being.
According to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, the state requires employers to notify the department when layoffs affect a significant number of employees. This process is intended to ensure that impacted workers receive the necessary support and resources during their transition.
As the nursing home industry faces numerous challenges, including staffing shortages and funding issues, the layoffs at Premier Care LLC reflect broader trends affecting similar facilities across the region. Stakeholders are likely to monitor how this situation develops and its implications for both employees and residents.
The community and local officials will be watching closely as the facility navigates this transition and seeks to maintain the quality of care for its remaining residents.
