Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton Faces Shingles Diagnosis, Out for Weeks
Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton has been diagnosed with shingles and will be sidelined for a few weeks, according to head coach Rick Carlisle. This announcement was made on February 4, 2024, as Haliburton continues to recover from a torn Achilles sustained during Game 7 of last year’s NBA Finals.
Shingles, which results in a painful skin rash, is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus responsible for chickenpox. Carlisle described Haliburton’s condition as “very painful” and noted that the diagnosis occurred after Haliburton experienced unusual symptoms while the team was in Washington D.C. “He will make a full recovery, but this happened over the last few days,” Carlisle stated. “We certainly wish him a speedy recovery. It’s a unique case and a unique situation, but I talked to him a few times, and he’s always in a good mood, so he’ll get through it.”
Despite being unable to play this season, Haliburton has been present on the bench for the Pacers, providing morale support to his teammates. Unfortunately, the team has struggled significantly this season, holding a record of 15-42, which is the worst in the Eastern Conference. Without their star point guard, the Pacers face an uphill battle as they navigate the remainder of the season.
Haliburton’s absence will be felt not only in his scoring and playmaking abilities but also in the leadership he brings to the team. The Pacers will need to adjust their strategy as they look to improve their performance in the coming weeks.
As the team rallies around Haliburton, fans and teammates alike remain hopeful for his swift recovery and return to the court.
