Dallas Icon New York Sub to Close After 50 Remarkable Years
New York Sub, a beloved sandwich shop in Dallas, is set to close its doors after nearly five decades of serving the community. Owner Andrew Kelley announced on Instagram that the restaurant will cease operations in February 2026, marking the end of an era for a local favorite located across from Southern Methodist University.
Established in the 1970s, New York Sub has been a staple in the Park Cities area, providing a consistent dining experience amid the evolving landscape of nearby University Park and Snider Plaza. Kelley expressed the emotional significance of the restaurant, noting it has been a venue for “first dates, post-game meals, and late-night study breaks.” Families have also frequented the shop, drawn to its arcade games and welcoming atmosphere.
Challenges Leading to Closure
New York Sub is known for its signature sandwiches, including the meatball, Italian, and pastrami options. Prices have remained reasonable, with most subs starting at around $12. Patrons often complement their meals with a bag of chips, a soft drink, and a cookie, making it a favorite among local residents.
A Call for Community Support
New York Sub’s impending closure adds to a list of notable sandwich shop closures in the region, including the Great Outdoors, which closed in early 2025 after 45 years, and Great American Hero, which ceased operations in 2023 after nearly 50 years. These closures highlight the challenges faced by long-standing establishments in maintaining their presence in a changing economic environment.
