MSU-Meridian Honors Four Exceptional Graduates for Academic Excellence

Four students from Mississippi State University-Meridian have been recognized for their outstanding academic achievements during the recent fall graduation ceremonies held in December 2025. These awards celebrate the commitment and dedication of students who have excelled in their respective fields of study.

A Diverse Group of Accomplished Graduates

Among the distinguished graduates is Amanda Blackwell McLeod from Ellisville, who earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Policy and Organizational Design. McLeod shared her motivation for pursuing this degree, stating, “I have always been drawn to people-centered work and to understanding how environments influence outcomes.” She aims to shape systems that enhance student access and success, particularly for underserved communities. Alongside her academic pursuits, McLeod serves as the vice president of Enrollment Management at Jones College and balances her professional life with being a wife and mother of two.

Another remarkable graduate is Madison White, who graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in applied science. Hailing from Philadelphia, White plans to pursue a Master of Arts in Teaching, aiming for a career in elementary education. “I have always loved working with children,” she remarked, expressing her desire to inspire her two children to achieve their educational goals.

Recognition for Academic Excellence

The fall 2025 recipient of the Mitchell Award for Undergraduate Academic Excellence, McKinely Goodin from Pelahatchie, graduated magna cum laude with a degree in criminology. Goodin has long aspired to become a crime scene investigator and values the positive impact that education can have on the community. “My experience at MSU-Meridian has been nothing but exceptional,” she noted, reflecting on her academic journey.

Completing the group of honorees is Bennett Higginbotham from Oxford, who earned a Master of Science in Counselor Education with a clinical mental health concentration. Higginbotham expressed a strong desire to provide support to those around him, stating, “I pursued a career that would allow me to use this skill.” His remote learning experience did not hinder his connection with professors and peers, as he maintained a supportive network throughout his studies. Higginbotham has already begun working at a private practice in Madison and plans to gain specialized training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in early 2026.
