New Bookstore Forage Books Opens in Kennett, Welcomes Community

The Kennett Square community has welcomed a new literary hub with the opening of Forage Books on February 14, 2024. Located at 121 West State Street, the bookstore aims to foster connections among residents while promoting literacy and a love for reading. Owner Tamlyn Ancone expressed her excitement about becoming an integral part of the local culture.

On its opening day, Forage Books attracted a remarkable turnout, with a line stretching down the street and customers waiting over two hours to browse the collection. Ancone noted, “I have received such great support from the businesses in town and now the shoppers are being as gracious.” This enthusiastic response signals a strong community interest in the new establishment.

The name “Forage” reflects Ancone’s vision of exploration and discovery through literature. She aims to provide not just a retail space but also a community gathering spot. To connect with local readers, the bookstore features a section titled “Kennett Square Neighbor Picks,” showcasing books recommended by community members. Ancone has also implemented a monthly survey on her website to gather suggestions and highlight ten selected titles each month.

Recognizing the importance of diversity in literature, Ancone has dedicated a section to celebrate Black History Month and is expanding her collection to include Spanish-language novels. She is actively seeking a native Spanish speaker to ensure that the translations resonate with local Spanish-speaking customers. Her goal is to integrate these titles across various genres, enhancing the bookstore’s appeal to a broader audience.

The second floor of Forage Books remains under renovation, but Ancone envisions it as a versatile space for community gatherings, including book clubs and game nights. Ancone’s connection to Kennett is personal, as her husband grew up in nearby Unionville and their son attends school in the area. This local tie strengthens her commitment to serving the community.
