New Braunfels’ NBTX Run Club Unites Community Through Running
Every Wednesday evening, a vibrant scene unfolds in downtown New Braunfels as a diverse group of runners gathers for the NBTX Run Club. Participants lace up their sneakers and bring their pets to join in a weekly tradition that promotes fitness and community spirit. The club meets at 6:30 p.m. at Pour Haus, where members can choose between a 2.6-mile run or a 2-mile walk. For those seeking a more challenging workout, a separate group often embarks on a four to five-mile route.
Co-founders Hunter Boltz and Bibian Cespedes emphasize that the club’s mission extends beyond physical health; it is fundamentally about fostering connections among community members. “So many people crave community, and I think that’s been the leading force here,” Boltz noted.
On average, the NBTX Run Club attracts around 100 participants during the winter months, but this number can swell to between 150 and 300 in the summer season. According to Cespedes, it is rewarding to see individuals incorporate the club into their weekly routines.
Member Erica Chavez, who joined after relocating to the area, expressed her enthusiasm for the community. “I started coming because I was new to the area, I didn’t really know anyone, and I was getting back into running, so it seemed like a perfect combination, and it turned out I was right,” she shared.
The club promotes an encouraging atmosphere, celebrating members’ achievements through social media and in-person support. Whether someone achieves a new personal best or completes their first race, the NBTX Run Club is there to cheer them on.
Community Impact Beyond Running
The influence of the NBTX Run Club reaches far beyond its weekly runs. The group has supported local businesses by hosting them at their events, organized a food drive for the New Braunfels Food Bank, and facilitated pet adoption events featuring rescue dogs. Cespedes explained, “It’s kind of our motto — ‘More Than Miles’ — just to be able to give back to the community itself.”
As the NBTX Run Club continues to grow, Boltz and Cespedes are excited about the potential for future initiatives and the impact they can have. They envision expanding their outreach efforts and creating more opportunities to serve the community.
