The Port of Long Beach is now accepting applications for its Community Sponsorship Program, with a deadline set for January 30. This initiative supports nonprofit organizations that aim to enhance community engagement and inform residents about the port’s activities. The program prioritizes events that focus on the arts, environmental sustainability, education, social justice, and historic preservation.

Nonprofit groups interested in participating can submit their applications online until 5 p.m. on January 30. It is important to note that the events funded through this program must be scheduled for after April 1. Following the application process, submissions will be reviewed and recommended for approval to the Board of Harbor Commissioners.

Applications will be evaluated based on their potential to effectively communicate the port’s role as an environmental steward, economic engine, and job creator. The port encourages events that incorporate promotional, marketing, and community outreach efforts, ensuring a broader understanding of its impact within the region.

Funding and Community Impact

The Port of Long Beach has a strong history of supporting local initiatives. In the previous funding cycle held in September, the harbor commission awarded a total of $976,000 across 330 community sponsorships. This funding not only helps to promote various community events but also strengthens the relationship between the port and the residents it serves.

The Community Sponsorship Program accepts applications three times a year, with upcoming cycles in May and September. Nonprofits are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to foster community connections and enhance public awareness about the port’s functions and benefits.

For additional information about the sponsorship program and the application process, interested parties can visit the official Port of Long Beach website at polb.com/sponsorships. This initiative represents a commitment to community engagement and demonstrates the port’s dedication to being a responsible and responsive neighbor.
