Watermark Art Center Launches January Art Workshops for All Ages

The Watermark Art Center in Bemidji is set to offer a diverse range of art workshops throughout January, catering to various skill levels and interests. These classes aim to engage participants in creative expression and skill development, providing a supportive environment for artistic exploration.

Figure Drawing Series

A highlight of the January offerings is the live model figure drawing class, scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on January 8, 15, 22, and 29. This four-session series invites participants to enhance their drawing skills by studying the human form through multiple poses, which will be held for durations ranging from two to 30 minutes. While a staff member from Watermark will facilitate each session, formal instruction will not be provided. Attendees are required to bring their own drawing materials; however, the center will supply drawing horses, easels, tables, and chairs. The entire series is available for $40, encouraging those interested to commit to all four sessions for a complete experience.

Urban Workshop in Watercolor

On January 17, an Urban Workshop in Watercolor will take place from 1 to 3:30 p.m.. This class, led by instructor Darcy Brambrink, is tailored for participants aged 16 and older. Attendees will learn techniques to transform complex cityscapes into expressive watercolor paintings. The workshop promises to cover essential skills, including basic washes and color mixing, while participants will create a finished piece by the end of the session. The cost for this workshop is $150, which includes all necessary materials, making it accessible for aspiring artists with little to no prior watercolor experience.

Felted Fun for Kids

For younger aspiring artists, the workshop titled “Felted Fun: Wet Felting for Kids” is scheduled for January 24, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Designed for students in grades four and up, this session includes a tour of the felt tapestry exhibit “Refugia” by exhibiting artist Kristen Anderson in Watermark’s Lakeview Gallery. After the tour, students will use the wet felting technique demonstrated by Anderson to create their own small felt pictures. The class will provide all necessary materials, including wool roving and felting soap, with a nominal fee of $28 for members and $30 for non-members, plus a $5 materials fee payable directly to the instructor. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, as the activity may require movement.
