New Dinosaur Foskeia pelendonum Discovered in Spain’s Cretaceous Era
An international research team has unveiled a new species of dinosaur, named Foskeia pelendonum, which provides critical insights into early herbivorous dinosaurs. This tiny dinosaur, measuring less than half a meter in length, was discovered in the Early Cretaceous deposits of Vegagete in Burgos, Spain. The findings were led by Paul-Emile Dieudonné from the National University of Río Negro in Argentina and published in the journal Papers in Palaeontology.
The discovery of Foskeia pelendonum is significant due to its unexpectedly advanced skull structure. This feature suggests that it occupies a pivotal position in the evolutionary history of herbivorous dinosaurs, particularly related to the origin of the Rhabdodontidae lineage in Europe.
