The Varsity Maine girls basketball poll continues to showcase the dominance of Cheverus, which remains the unanimous No. 1 for the fifth consecutive week. Despite suffering its first loss of the season against Biddeford, Cheverus has secured the top seed in the Class A South playoffs. The team quickly rebounded with a victory over South Portland, reaffirming its position at the top of the rankings.

In the latest poll, published on February 3, 2026, South Portland holds steady in the No. 2 position after defeating Sanford earlier in the week. The Red Riots have demonstrated strong performance throughout the season, making them a formidable contender as the playoffs approach.

Meanwhile, Biddeford made a significant move in the rankings after its victory over Cheverus, which allowed the Tigers to surpass Oceanside and secure the fifth position. Despite a loss in their season finale against Sanford, the win against Cheverus provided a crucial boost for Biddeford.

The rankings reveal minimal changes from the previous week, with Hampden Academy making its debut in the poll at No. 10. This reflects the competitive nature of the league as teams vie for playoff positions and recognition.
