The Knoxville Girls Wrestling Squad has made significant strides during its second year, showcasing remarkable improvement in various aspects of the program. The Panthers concluded the 2023 season with a winning record of 18-7 in dual meets, clinched a victory at one meet, and successfully sent two athletes to the prestigious State Meet.

Coach Doug Hatch expressed pride in the team’s progress, noting that the girls exhibited enhanced confidence throughout the season. “We beat a lot of rated kids this year, won a tournament, and finished second in several others,” Hatch stated. He highlighted the growth in individual performance, mentioning that the team recorded three winning records last year, which increased to ten this season.

This advancement reflects a commitment to development within the program, as the Panthers have steadily built their competitive edge. The success is particularly noteworthy given the challenges of facing tougher opponents.

Looking ahead, the squad will face the challenge of graduating four key seniors: Serenity Turner, Cally Landis, Andie Branson, and Alyssa McCreery. Their contributions have been pivotal to the team’s achievements. Despite this loss, Coach Hatch remains optimistic about the future. Many remaining team members are younger and will have two or even three more seasons to compete, providing a solid foundation for continued growth.

As the Knoxville Girls Wrestling Squad prepares for the next season, the progress made this year promises a bright future for the program. The team’s dedication and hard work have set a strong precedent, inspiring both current and future athletes to pursue excellence on the mat.
