Last Saturday, golfer Landon Williams achieved the remarkable feat of scoring an albatross at Butte Creek Golf Course. While playing alongside teammates Gavin Keene, Tyler Messina, and Brady Webb, Williams struck a 207-yard 5-iron on the par 5, 10th hole, landing the ball in the cup for a score of two. Canyon Oaks Women’s Golf Club Tournament Results

In other golfing news, the Canyon Oaks Women’s Golf Club concluded its Two-Woman Scramble Eclectic tournament on February 14, 2024, after a two-and-a-half-month competition. The tournament featured impressive performances, with Karen Escott and Konnie Marskey taking the top spot for Low Gross with a score of 64. The team of Robin Manna and Lori Rainwater secured the Net victory with a score of 58.55, followed closely by Sheri Grilli and Sally Pearson at 59.2, and Shelley Carney and Nancy Chamberlin at 60.44.

Upcoming Junior Golf Camp at Bidwell Golf Course

The Bidwell Golf Course is set to host a Spring Break Junior Camp from March 16-19, 2024, catering to boys and girls aged 6 to 12. The four-day clinic, priced at $150, will focus on essential golf skills, including short game, putting, and full swing techniques. Each day will include lunch, and participants will engage in a course scramble contest with the instructors on the final day. In the early years, the focus was on the Chico State Men’s Golf Team, which was ranked number one in the nation for Division II Colleges and Universities. Under the direction of Head Coach Keith Thomas, the team achieved remarkable success that continues to resonate today.

Lee Watrous, a new member at Canyon Oaks, accomplished a birdie on the first hole followed by an eagle on the second in one of his initial rounds. Additionally, young golfer Luke Barnum, a sophomore at Chico High School, recently recorded a hole-in-one on the 14th hole at Canyon Oaks.

The Canyon Oaks Ladies Club wrapped up their Blind Draw, two-person best ball tournament, with Fran Wedow and Evie Spring taking first place in the First Flight. The Second Flight was won by Patricia Radisich and Sheila McEnaney. Many participants enjoyed successful rounds, with several birdies recorded throughout the tournament.

While holes-in-one are infrequent this time of year, there has been a noticeable increase at Bidwell Golf Course recently, with players like Kris Leayman and Dan Steffy achieving their aces during recent rounds.
