Remembering Carole L. Rish: A Life of Teaching and Joy

Carole L. Rish, aged 86, of Shickshinny, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, at the Allied Services Hospice Center after a prolonged struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Her passing marks the end of a vibrant life dedicated to teaching, gymnastics, and nurturing her family.

Born on August 23, 1939, Carole grew up in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, as the daughter of the late Anna (Brindle) Ziegler and the late Pastor Phillip Ziegler. She attended East Stroudsburg University, where she not only earned a degree in teaching but also showcased her athletic talent as a member of the university’s gymnastics team. Carole’s passion for dance and gymnastics inspired her career path, leading her to become an elementary physical education teacher.

Throughout her professional journey, Carole had a profound impact on her students. She spent many fulfilling years at the Greater Nanticoke Area School District, where she taught physical education and coached gymnastics and cheerleading. Known for her engaging approach, she introduced her students to line dancing and square dancing, often set to her favorite music, including songs by Neil Diamond. Many of her former students, including one of her nurses, remembered her fondly, reflecting her lasting influence on their lives.

Carole’s family includes her daughters, Lisa Moyer and her fiancé Anthony Novitski, and Kimberly (Moyer) Czapracki and her spouse Kenny. She is also survived by her brothers, Jack Ziegler and his spouse Darlene, and David Ziegler, along with numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Carole was preceded in death by her son, David W. Moyer, along with her parents, an infant sister, and several other family members.

Before her diagnosis with Parkinson’s Disease, Carole led an active and adventurous life. She spent summers working in Ocean City, NJ, creating cherished memories that she carried throughout her life. Friends and family describe her as fun-loving, possessing a vibrant sense of humor, and always radiating joy and love to those around her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Nanticoke Christian Fellowship church, reflecting Carole’s commitment to her faith and community.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Dinelli Family Funeral Home, located at 170 East Broad St., Nanticoke, followed by a memorial service. Pastor David Pegarella of Nanticoke Christian Fellowship will officiate. The family plans to announce a celebration of life gathering with a meal for all who wish to attend at a later date.
